STUDENT LOAN PROCEDURES FOR THE 2013 FIELD SCHOOL

2013 North Island College In Search of the Trojan War Greece and Turkey Field School information has now been entered onto the StudentAid BC website.  To determine whether you are eligible for a loan, go to http://www.studentaidbc.ca .

Then, find the Field School through the Apply function.  The program you should choose from the drop down box will be University Transfer -- Year 1 -- and the Student Loan dates are listed as April 28 to July 18, 2013.

The maximum award amounts available from StudentAid BC for funding for 13 weeks will be $4,160 for a single student and $6,630 for students with dependents.  Not all students will receive the maximum award.  Note that the required estimated required student expenses will be approximately $6,500 (see the Student Expenses page for a detailed breakdown of these costs).  Students will need to find additional sources of funding to cover the full cost of the trip and spending money.

A deferral agreement will be available for those who are approved for a student loan, given that the student loans are not officially released until the beginning of the Field School.  You will need to gain approval for your student loan before you become eligible for the deferral.  Once the student loan has been approved, you should see Doris Funk to complete the deferral agreement.  The college will then cover payments up to the maximum amount of your student loan in return for you agreeing to transfer those funds over to the college when they do become available.  Based on the maximum a single student can receive in funding, you will be required to pay the initial $300 deposit, the January 28th payment of $1000, and possibly some of the February payment.
